Many people always think that an explosion-proof certificate is the same as a coal safety certificate, and products can be used in any explosive hazardous area as long as they obtain an explosion-proof certificate or a coal safety certificate. Actually, this is a big misunderstanding. What are the differences between explosion-proof certificates and coal safety certificates?

1The issuing institution is different

The explosion-proof certificate, also known as the explosion-proof qualification certificate, is issued by the National Electrical Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center or other qualified units. Currently, more than ten institutions across the country can issue explosion-proof qualification certificates. The coal safety certificate can only be issued by the National Safety Standards Center.

2Different applicable environments

The explosion-proof certificate is applicable to Class II and III explosive hazardous areas, including gas and dust environments, while the coal safety certificate is only applicable to Class I gas explosive hazardous environments.

3The authentication process is different

At present, the explosion-proof certificate can be applied for by providing the applied samples and product technical information for relevant testing, without the need for factory review. Traders and distributors can apply for the explosion-proof certificate. However, according to the Announcement of the State Administration for Market Regulation on the Implementation Requirements for the Conversion of Production License to Compulsory Product Certification Management of Explosion proof Electrical and Other Products, starting from October 1, 2019, Explosion proof Electrical will also be included in the scope of national mandatory product certification management. This means that after October 1, 2019, Explosion proof electrical products belong to the national CCC certification, and in accordance with the implementation rules of CCC certification, factory inspections must also be conducted. The coal safety certificate not only requires corresponding testing of samples, but also annual factory supervision after reviewing and obtaining evidence from the factory.

4Different certification cycles

At present, the application for coal safety certificate follows a series of processes of the National Safety Standards Center, including application, acceptance, review, inspection, factory audit, and supervision after certificate collection, which generally takes 6 months. The explosion-proof certificate only needs to provide product information and samples for relevant testing, and can be issued directly after passing the test, which can quickly obtain the certificate.

5The certification fees are different

The cost of applying for a coal safety certificate generally includes application fees, technical review fees, testing fees, factory review fees, certificate fees, etc. The cost is higher than that of an explosion-proof certificate.

As the country further incorporates explosion-proof electrical equipment into the scope of mandatory national certification, what changes may be faced with explosion-proof certificates and coal safety certificates? Stay tuned.
